The beauty of Bath Stone first came to prominence during the mid-18th century when the now legendary partnership of John Wood and Ralph Allen set out to build the “grand Palladian city” which became the fashionable spa town of Bath, in Northeast Somerset.
However, it’s not only historic buildings that are built in Bath Stone. Most of the quarries and stone mines have closed, but genuine Bath Stone is still available from several quarries near Bath and you can still build in Bath stone.
As experienced, qualified stone masons in the Bath area we are pleased to be able to undertake the supply and fixing of high-quality Bath Stone from local mines for new build projects in Bath, Bristol, Wiltshire, Somerset & Gloucestershire.
We have all the skills and equipment required to prepare Bath stone to specification for a wide variety of construction projects. Our bespoke stone masonry services extend from the simplest dressed ashlar blocks to all the other elements required to complete a Bath stone building project, such as window surrounds, copings, porches, balustrades, capitals, cills and even staircases.
We select the finest raw blocks of Bath stone from local mines then cut them to the required dimensions, ready to be dressed and finished by our highly skilled banker masons in our workshop. The finished stone is then installed on site by our fixer masons, using a combination of modern and traditional techniques.
We work with clients, architects, and designers from concept to completion, building today what we proudly intend to be “forever homes” and the precious heritage Bath stone structures of tomorrow.
