Effective & Safe Cleaning

ThermaTech System

Bath Stone, like any porous natural stone, is vulnerable to becoming soiled by a build-up of pollutants, especially traffic emissions, acid rain, and biological growth like algae and moss. It can gradually turn a dirty grey, and develop steaks, stains and patches of black crust masking the beauty of the original stone beneath.

It’s not just the physical appearance of Bath stone that suffers from becoming dirty, however. Grime and contamination can cause chemical damage like blistering and spalling to the stone surface over time. The pores of the stone might become blocked so moisture and salts can’t escape from inside the stone. Dirt deposits could also be hiding dangerous defects like failed pointing, cracks or structural faults.

Bath Stone needs to be kept clean, not only to look good but also to be conserved for the future and maintain its structural integrity.

The tried and tested equipment we favour for cleaning is the ThermaTech superheated water system. This system is approved for cleaning heritage masonry, without the use of any chemicals. The compact machinery uses extremely hot water to remove everything from paint and chewing gum to oil stains and organic matter.

We can also use nebular mist spraying and chemical poultices to remove the more stubborn discolouration, such as carbon sulphation and copper staining.
